Roadway Construction Traffic Alert
1. Airport Center Drive East -
Construction is now underway to extend Airport Center Drive East to Starratt Drive and New Berlin Road in the Oceanway area. Gillespie Avenue (between Drury Lane and Elizabeth Lane) is closed. Only local traffic will have access.
2. McDuff Avenue -
Construction is underway to widen McDuff to three lanes from Roosevelt Boulevard to Beaver Street, including bike lanes, new curb and gutter, sidewalks, drainage improvements and upgrading the traffic signal systems. Lane closures and traffic shifts are expected as construction proceeds.
3. Soutel Drive -
Construction is underway on the widening and realignment of Prichard Road and Soutel Drive to four lanes from I-295 to New Kings Road (US-1). Work includes bike lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, drainage improvements and retention ponds and an overpass at the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Lane closures and traffic shifts are expected as construction proceeds.
Traffic has been shifted from Old Soutel Drive to a temporary detour road, located between the Norfolk Southern and CSX Rail Roads. The west entrance for Cardinal Health (at 6595 Pritchard Road) is closed. The east entrance will remain open at all times during this period.
4. Beach-Kernan Interchange -
Construction is underway on the interchange at the intersection of Kernan and Beach boulevards. The project includes an overpass on Kernan, crossing Beach. A new traffic pattern is now in place at the intersection of Beach-Kernan. Kernan traffic has been shifted slightly to the west to a section of new roadway, allowing construction of the bridge to begin.
5. Wonderwood Connector 3 -
The existing roadway (between Wompi Drive and Monument Road) will be widened from two to four lanes and will include median, bike lanes and sidewalks.
McCormick Road has been increased from two open lanes to four (between the St. Johns Bluff Road and Monument Road). There is a new traffic signal in operation at the intersection of McCormick and Fort Caroline roads.
A new traffic pattern is now in place. Please observe the signage and exercise caution when traveling between St. Johns Bluff and Ft. Caroline Road West for the first time.
6. Beach Boulevard Intracoastal Waterway Bridge -
The new north span of the bridge is now open to both eastbound and westbound traffic. A new traffic pattern is in effect from San Pablo Road in Jacksonville to 20th Street N. in Jacksonville Beach.
Demolition of the existing McCormick Bridge (the drawbridge) at Beach Boulevard has begun. The channel under the drawbridge will be closed as work crews dismantle the structure. The channel will be closed from April 23 - May 14 between the hours of 7 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m.
The section of the access road on the southeast side of Beach Boulevard under the McCormick Bridge remains closed to traffic. Both the north and south entrances of the access road will remain open and businesses on the road are accessible.
