System Features
The
BRT system is different than the current bus system. The system
will provide service levels and amenities similar to light rail
with the use of rubber-tire vehicles. The system will include
the following features:
Transit Signal Priority - grants extended green
lights to transit vehicles, enabling them to maintain on-time
performance.

Queue Jumps - provides transit dedicated lanes
to "jump" ahead of stopped traffic and continue uninterrupted.
Reserved Lanes - offers quicker travel times
by bypassing congested general-use travel lanes. Most of the
Downtown system will operate in diamond-marked lanes reserved
for transit vehicles during peak hours.
Station Stops - features comfortable shelters
with maps, lighting, signage, real time arrival and departure
information and other amenity improvements.
BRT vehicles - look and operate differently
than most conventional buses.
As the system develops, JTA will look to integrate a variety
of new, technologically-advanced BRT vehicles into the fleet.
New BRT vehicles like the one pictured
below may one day be utilized.
