Benefits Overview
Full-time employees of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority
enjoy a very comprehensive benefits package. Below is a summary
of the benefits offered.
Health
Employees choose between a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
or a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). JTA pays the entire
premium for single coverage. Highlights of each option are as
follows:
Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO (Blue Care)
Employees must choose a primary care physician from a list supplied
by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
- Co-Payment - $15 per visit, Co-Payment for Specialist-$25
- Rx Pharmacy Prescriptions - $10 for generic, $25 for name
brand, $40 non-preferred
- Emergency Room co-payment - $50
- In-hospital charge - $250 per admission
Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO (Blue Choice)
Employees can choose from a number of doctors in the area who
have agreed to specialized fees for specific services.
- Annual deductible - $300 per person, $900 per family
- Co-Payment (after deductible is met) - 90% by Blue Cross,
10% by the employee
- Rx Pharmacy Prescriptions - $10 for generic, $25 for name
brand, $40 non-preferred
- Maximum out-of-pocket expense - $1,500 per person, $3,000
per family
Dental Insurance
Employees enjoy a quality PPO Dental Plan through United Concordia.
JTA pays the entire premium for single coverage. Highlights
are as follows:
- Annual deductible - $50 per person, $150 per family
- Preventative/diagnostic charges - paid at 100% and the deductible
is waived
- Restorative charges - paid at 80%
- Major/Replacement charges - paid at 50%
- Orthodontic charges - paid at 50% - with a $1,000 per person lifetime
maximum
- Annual maximum - $1,500 per person
Term Life Insurance
JTA provides group term life insurance equal to the employee's base
annual earnings.
Long Term Disability Insurance
Employees are provided with a long term disability insurance plan. This
plan provides 60% of the employee's basic monthly earnings after 90
days of continuous disability. Benefits will continue until the employee
is 65 years of age as long as the disability continues.
Holidays
Employees receive 10 paid holidays per year, as follows:
- New Years Day
- Martin Luther King's Birthday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Friday After Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- (1) Floating Holiday (to be used at the employee's discretion with
supervisory approval)
Vacation
After six months employment, employees accrue one week of vacation.
Employees accrue 6.67 hours
vacation time per month, which is equivalent to two weeks per year during the first five years of employment.
After five years service, employees accrue 10 hours vacation time per
month, which is equivalent to three weeks per year.
Retirement
JTA is a member of the Florida Retirement System and makes monthly contributions
in the employees' name to the State pension fund. Full pension can be
paid to employees who have a minimum of six years service at age 62.
Employees with 30 years service can receive full pension benefits regardless
of their age at the time of retirement.
Deferred Compensation Plan
Employees also have an option to make pre-tax contributions into a 457
plan. Employees can contribute up to $13,000 per year into this
plan. Several investment options are available for employees.
Educational Assistance
Employees with a minimum of one year of service are eligible for educational
assistance. Courses must be pre-approved by a supervisor and must be
used toward earning a degree. Reimbursement is based on the Florida
State University Tuition schedule in effect at the time the course is
taken. Undergraduate students must earn at least a grade C and graduate
students at least a grade B for the educational assistance.
Sick Leave
Employees accrue sick pay at the rate of eight hours each month. The
maximum accrual is 720 hours.
Voluntary Benefits
JTA also offers its employees the option to pick up additional voluntary
benefits including cancer insurance, intensive care insurance, short-term
disability, voluntary term-life insurance, interest sensitive life insurance,
pre-paid legal and Visioncare.
Section 125 Premium Conversion Plan
Employees have the option to pay for their family coverage and qualified
voluntary benefits on a pre-tax basis.
